Matthew 5:14-16 couldn’t be any more applicable than it is right now,
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Now is our time, we are the church and together we all play a part in God’s rescue plan for humanity. So, join us here at GT as we resist the temptation to hide under our baskets and boldly shine our light for the world to see.
Here is a practical guide as Jesus-followers to help you live out your faith and make a tangible difference in the world around you:
L-Light your lamp first before you light others
You can’t give away what you don’t have, take time for yourself with God.
Spend time in the bible each morning and ask God to give you a fresh word for the day. Don’t underestimate how life giving, relevant and applicable the Word of God is for your soul.
God wants to walk you through this season. You are not alone, lean into him and allow him to speak to you and your situation.
I-Identify 3 different people you can call and encourage each day
Social Distancing doesn’t have to mean Social Isolation. This is our opportunity to practically be the church in a time that has caused us to physically distance ourselves. We can “be together” and not “be together”. Identify 3 people by asking God who you can reach out to each day and intentionally connect with. The world needs hope right now and this is our opportunity to shine light in places that need it.
G-Go find a quiet place and make your phone calls
This is literally your opportunity to shine and show the world what the church can actually look like. Go and call that friend, neighbour, family member God put on your heart and let them know that they’re on your mind and that you wanted to check in with them. Ask how they’re doing and share your encouraging word that God placed on your heart earlier that day. If you get a voicemail, leave a voicemail. What God is doing in you is worth sharing. Take a moment to highlight a piece of scripture and spend a moment encouraging them to remain hopeful.
H- Have an intentional moment of prayer over the phone
Prayer is your secret weapon. When you pray, God hears you. You are not alone. God is with you and your prayer over the phone is just as powerful as a prayer at the front of a church. The power of prayer comes from God not from you… so don’t overcomplicate it. Invite Jesus into the moment over the phone and see what He can do.
T- Tell them to light their lamp too
We are fighting Viral with Viral… If COVID-19 can spread quickly and force people into isolation, lets push back and spread hope quickly and enable the church to be the church. The church is designed for moments like this. We have a unique opportunity to show the world what the power of prayer and the presence of God can tangibly do in a person’s life. So let’s be hope. Let’s spread hope and let’s let hope be our strategy in these unprecedented times. Day after day, week after week, 3 people by 3 people… we will keep multiplying because people need to hear that hope has a name…. and his name is Jesus.
